Reel 02: The Absence of
Youth
The Absence of Youth explores how the absence of imagery can shape emotional transitional spaces. The work originates from a core question: how can I meet you again? Whether due to misunderstanding, harm, or the mere limitations of fate, these absent connections are recontextualized within a blank visual field, creating a possibility for encounters.
At the heart of the work are blank slide projections, which do not serve as records of time but instead act as spaces for imagined reunions. In this setting, narrative voices replace visual specificity, establishing a framework for dialogue with the unseen other. The conversations are simple and ordinary, comprising greetings, inquiries, and occasional shared memories. These quotidian tones tend to evoke the boundaries between individual and collective, opening to viewers to perceive fragments of their own emotions within the emptiness of the projections.
The Absence of Youth not only examines the role of imagery but also seeks to redefine how emotions persist through the interruptions of visual representation. The work reveals the potential of absence to transform memory and perception into a fluid and open experience, giving undefined emotions a space to breathe. Attempting to make connection with people in a trivia, quiet yet grounded way.
