Tetralogy of Absence
Tetralogy of Absence is a performance installation that unfolds in a darkened space, illuminated only by the faint glow of projected blank slides. This series investigates the interplay between absence, memory, and perception, constructing a space where visual experience gives way to emotional resonance and reflection. Across its four parts, the work reimagines how the unseen shapes our understanding of history, identity, and collective memory.
Each reel in the tetralogy engages with a distinct facet of absence, using fragmented sounds, blank projections, and physical gestures to evoke a shared yet intangible space. The absence of imagery becomes a medium for presence, inviting us to inhabit the spaces left by what is unseen and unrecorded. Together, these pieces offer a meditation on the fragile intersections of personal and collective memory, where history’s voids resonate with the possibility of reconciliation and reimagination.
The four reels are as follows:
Reel 01: The Absence of Windscape
explores distant landscapes and fleeting memories through blank projections and oral narratives. It reflects on how unseen sceneries are recalled and interpreted in the absence of imagery.
Reel 02: The Absence of Youth
examines relationships shaped by absence and alienation. Using fragmented dialogue, it creates a space for imagined reunions and the emotional contours of memory.
Reel 03: The Absence of Belief
interrogates the invisibility of faith and its emotional weight. Through ritualistic gestures and blank imagery, it confronts the complexities of belief as a source of both solace and uncertainty.
Reel 04: The Absence of Spectacle
turns to the collective, summoning unrecorded lives from the margins of history. With cyclical movements, fractured imagery, and resonant sounds, it invites reflection on those excluded from representation.
